In most cases, the appearance of a diamond with strong fluorescence is rarely affected, but some believe it can make diamonds with a low colour grade look whiter in natural daylight and some diamonds with a high colour grade may look milky and lifeless in daylight. Luckily, fluorescence has absolutely no impact on a diamonds integrity.
A diamond’s fluorescence grading is actually a characteristic description of it’s intensity rather than a grading like the 4C’s. This runs from None, Faint, Medium, to Strong and Very Strong and is stated on a GIA Diamond Grading Report.
To be frank, fluorescence doesn’t have much of an effect on diamonds to say whether it is good or bad. To some, fluorescence is bad but to others it’s actually pretty cool so it really is down to personal preference. At Gear Jewellers we aim to have no fluorescence in our diamonds as we want our diamonds to sparkle
brilliantly in all lighting conditions.
If you wish to know more about diamond fluorescence or view our diamond engagement rings then you can book a virtual appointment with one of our diamond specialists, we would be happy to help guide you through the world of diamonds.
