Round diamonds typically look the biggest for their carat weight because they're cut to maximize sparkle and light reflection, which makes them appear larger to the eye. The brilliant cut shows the most surface area when you're looking down at the ring.

That said, elongated shapes like oval, marquise, and pear can actually look bigger than a round diamond of the same carat weight because they cover more finger real estate. An oval especially gives you that classic diamond look but with more visual impact per carat.

Princess cuts (square) also show their weight well since most of the stone is visible from the top. Emerald and asscher cuts look smaller than their actual weight because so much of the carat weight sits in the depth rather than spread across the surface.
